7 Relatable and Inspiring Quotes about Motherhood
If you’re new to the game (because motherhood is totally challenging — but still incredibly fun) then welcome to the hood! If you’ve been around the block a time or two then welcome back. Raising little humans isn’t easy, and often we feel that we are alone on this journey, especially when we are at our worst. These Mums have just the right words for the experiences that you and I have -or will- face at some point along our paths as mothers. Here are my favourite relatable and inspiring quotes about motherhood that really helped me feel like I wasn’t alone in my #momstruggles and that somewhere, someone else was feeling just as overwhelmed and underprepared as I was.
“The very fact that you worry about being a good mom means that you are one.” Jodi
Wondering if we are doing a good enough job raising our kids is probably one of the biggest anxieties of
“The way we talk to our children becomes their inner voice.” Peggy O’Mara
I’m a true believer in the power of positivity and what it can do for your mental and physical state, your relationships, and every other aspect of your life. This is no different when it comes to parenting. The words and ways we choose to teach, praise, or discipline our children will stick with them. Therefore we need to choose these words wisely and keep in mind that our voices are the ones that hold the most weight in their heads and their hearts.

“There is no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.” Jill Churchill
Perfection is another one of those things that so many of us struggle with as parents. However, being a “perfect parent” is both unattainable and unimportant. What’s important is that we celebrate every tiny victory and praise each other for doing what’s best for our children. This doesn’t always look the same as our fellow moms but that’s OKAY! That’s one of the beautiful things about motherhood; it’s a unique journey for each and every one of us.
“You’re always going to wonder if you’re doing things wrong, but that’s what it means to be a mom, to care so much about someone else that you just want to be as perfect as possible.” Naya Rivera
This totally relatable quote by mom-of-all-trades Naya Rivera really highlights this perfectionist tendency that motherhood often brings out in ourselves. While it is absolutely a good thing to want to be the best mother you can be, I can’t state this enough: PERFECTION IS NOT REAL. What IS real is trying your best and failing sometimes. And learning as you go. Real motherhood is about caring enough to try everything you can to keep your child feeling happy, healthy, and loved.

“Birth takes a woman’s deepest fears about herself and shows her that she is stronger than them.” Unknown
Whoever is responsible for this totally relatable quote really knows what it’s like to struggle with anxiety and low self-esteem. Motherhood is full of ups and downs but giving birth, natural or assisted, is a completely different kind of roller-coaster. Anyone who has carried a child can attest: growing anothe person inside of you and bringing them into the world shows you are truly strong and brave and amazing!
“The natural state of motherhood is unselfishness. When you become a mother you are no longer the centre of your own universe. You relinquish that position to your children.”
This is the part of motherhood that I’ve struggled with the most. Losing my independence and having to put someone else first 100% of the time is a huge adjustment, especially as someone who waited until a bit later in life to start a family. Learning to accept my new position within my own heart has been challenging, but taking on the responsibility of raising good kids was my choice and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
“Having kids — the responsibility of rearing good, kind, ethical, responsible human beings — is the biggest job anyone can embark on.” Maria Shriver
It’s true! This career isn’t for the faint of heart. Being a mom is the toughest job you will ever have. This position comes more responsibility than you could ever imagine, but the payoff is 100% WORTH IT! Every single little mom-win that you will ever have will be worth the blood, sweat, and tears that come with motherhood. From their first steps to their last day of high school. The broken bones, broken hearts, and broken curfews… Mom life is the BEST!
I hope these relatable quotes have helped you feel inspired and welcomed into the chaos that is…Motherhood!
